The Commercial Certificate marks a large milestone in a pilot's journey. Considered by many as the culmination of a student's flight training experience, new commercial pilots are certified to fly for hire and earn money for the skills they have possessed. Completing your Commercial Pilot Certificate begins to open many doors such as flying charter, providing scenic flights, or becoming an instructor.

Eligibility Requirements

Be at least 18 years of age

Hold at least a current Private Pilot certificate

Must pass the FAA 2nd class medical

Read, write, speak, and understand English

Flight Requirements

In order to earn your Commercial Pilot License you must have at least 250 hours and 10 hours of ground school. These 250 hours have to consist of at least:

Dual Flight Training (with a Flight Instructor)

20 hours of flight training with an instructor

50 hours of cross-country flight training

10 hours in a complex aircraft

Solo Flight Training

10 hours of solo flying — including 5 hours of solo cross-country

1 solo cross-country flight of at least 150 nm total with 3 stops, one leg of at least 50 nm between takeoff and landing

3 takeoffs and landings at a controlled airport

10 hours of ground school required
